Grades and Communication
The University at Buffalo complies fully with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) in its treatment of students' educational records, including grades. The best way for parents/family to find out about students' grades and academic performance is by establishing expectations through ongoing, open communication between students and their families. While this approach is highly recommended, an alternative is for students to sign a written release form in the presence of their academic advisor . This must be done during the fall or spring semester and is only valid for the current academic year.
